Burmese people are really religious, therefore, they have some strict rules when entering the temples. Tourists who want to visit the Buddhist constructions in Myanmar, should notice these etiquette below in order to show respect to the locals and their belief.
Take off shoes and socks Normally, you have to remove your shoes and socks, leave your hat or umbrella at the entrance of any Buddhist constructions and homes of local people but there are still some exceptions. It’s better to observe the locals around. Dress conservatively Burmese people always cover their feet and shoulders. When entering the spiritual sites, you should avoid wearing short skirts, shorts, sleeveless shirts or see – through attires. Dress code applies for both men and women. Keep quiet and do not show affection Lower your voice, remove headphones, avoid shouting or showing affection in the temples because these sites are the holy places for holding religious rituals and paying homage. Be discreet with your photograph It will be nice to ask people first before taking a picture of them, especially with the monks.
